COUDERSPORT — Alex Liners, Ian Pilon and Gavin McGee each put on strong performances to help the Bradford boys track and field team earn a win in the Coudersport Invitational.
Liners was a triple winner, taking first in the 110-meter hurdles (16.5), the 300-meter hurdles (42.0) and ran on the winning 1600-meter relay team. The senior also took third place in the shot put (38-5).
Pilon, a freshman, was also a triple winner by earning victories in the 1600-meter run (4:58), the 800-meter run (2:06) and assisting the squad’s victorious 1600-meter relay team.
McGee won the high jump (5-8), triple jump (42-8) and tied for the best long jump (20-2.5), but he took second on the tiebreaker and lost by two inches.
The Owls also had numerous double winners.
Steven Morgan won the 400-meter dash in his best time of the year (54.3) and was on the 1600-meter relay team.
“Steve gets better each week and has become a good leader,” Bradford boys coach Tom Tessena said.
Jake Pattison was on both the 400-meter and 1600-meter relay winners and also posted a personal best time in the 200-meter dash (24.2 – 5th). Junior Jerid Wilmoth was on the team’s victorious 3200-meter and the 400-meter relay teams and also ran a personal best of 23.4 in the 200-meter dash (3rd place).
Other first place winners included sophomore Parker Shipman, who won the discus (112-3) in a hail storm, while Ian Paterniti won the pole vault (11-0). Ryan Cottillion and Aiden Wright were on the winning 3200-meter relay team. Cottillion also placed second in the 800-meter run (2:08) and the high jump (5-6), while Wright placed fourth in the 800-meter run.
Freshman Leo Paterniti was on the winning 3200-meter relay team and took third in the 800-meter run. Gabe Mitchell was part of the winning 400-meter relay team and took second in the 400-meter dash (56.6) and fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.7).
Junior Andrew Kane had personal bests in the 100-meter dash (3rd — 11.6), the 200-meter dash (4th — 24.2), and the pole vault (9-6) to go along with a first place in the 400-meter relay.
In the throwing events, Ryan Hughes was second in the discus (110-10) and second in the shot put (39-6). Junior Caden Fox had personal bests in the javelin (120-9 – 5th) and the discus (94-6 — 5th). Sophomore Troy Adkins was second in the 110-meter hurdles (18.1) and had his best time in the 300-meter hurdles (46.9 — 4th). Brendan Confer (4th — 110-meter hurdles) and Quentin Minard (5th — 1600-meter run) also scored for the Owls.
“This was a good showing on a tough day with rain, wind and hail, but our guys showed some toughness today,” Tessena said. “We will need that on Monday when we go down to Punxsy.”
Other competitors who earned first place finishes were Coudersport’s Josh Ross and Gavyn Ayers. Ross won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.3, while Ayers won the 200-meter dash in 22.3.
Brandt Kightlinger narrowly beat out McGee for first in the long jump for the Falcons and Dylan Hajzus took first in the spot put for Coudy (40-8).
Elk Catholic’s Joe Wolfe was the victor in the 3200-meter run (10:14), while Alex Smith took first in the javelin (144-4).
