A number of preliminary hearings were scheduled for Wednesday in Bradford, including one for a Bradford man who is facing drug charges.
James P. Munday, 33, of Bradford, had charges against him bound to McKean County Court at a hearing before District Judge Dominic Cercone. Munday is charged with possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use.
On April 28, two agents with Pennsylvania State Parole went to Munday’s residence because Munday is on state parole. They ended up searching the home, and during the search, Munday left, prompting a foot chase that ended after an agent tackled him, the criminal complaint alleged.
According to the complaint, the agents found the following in Munday’s backpack and residence: a larger bag contained suspected cocaine, empty baggies, a box of sandwich bags and a digital scale, about 1 ounce of cocaine split into three baggies, boxes of sandwich bags, scales, straws, $2,970 in cash, marijuana residue, a .22 clip with ammunition, a marijuana grinder and additional paraphernalia.
Munday is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail.
Also on Wednesday, Michael R. Stone, 30, of Bradford, waived a preliminary hearing before District Judge Richard Luther on charges of failure to comply with registration of sexual offender requirements.
According to the criminal complaint, at 8:38 a.m. April 1, Foster Township Police were notified of a possible violation of registration. It was determined that Stone had been employed at Mama Jane’s Restaurant since Jan. 2, but he failed to register his place of employment as per the requirements of Megan’s Law.
Stone is free, having posted $25,000 bail.
Damien J. Packer, 19, of Bradford, had charges against him bound to McKean County Court at a hearing before Cercone.
Packer faces charges of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, seven counts of recklessly endangering another person and 74 summary traffic violations.
According to Bradford City Police, their department tried to stop a car on April 20 on Mill Street near Jackson Avenue. The operator — Packer — allegedly fled from police, and a pursuit ensued.
Reports alleged that he passed multiple vehicles and traveled at estimated speeds up to 90 mph before city officers stopped following him due to safety concerns. Packer was found a short time later at the Lafferty Hollow Industrial Complex, and he fled into the woods on foot, according to police. Several police agencies assisted in searching and taking the man into custody.
Packer is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Kelcie R. Moffett, 19, of Bradford, waived a hearing before Luther for charges of criminal trespass, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The criminal complaint alleges that on Feb. 13, Bradford Township Police found Moffett, Westley C. Hardy and Rikki L. Curcio inside of a vacant home on High Street after responding to a report of a suspicious U-Haul box truck.
Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in the common areas of the home, and methamphetamine was also discovered in the search; a backpack belonging to Hardy contained lock-picking tools, too, the complaint stated.
Moffet is free on $50,000 unsecured bail.
Jeffery S. Wood, 25, of Bradford, waived a hearing before Luther on charges related to the theft of a company car — theft by unlawful taking and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
The criminal complaint states that on Feb. 21, a Bradford City police officer was dispatched for a report that someone stole a company car belonging to B&T Contractors. Salamanca (N.Y.) Police located the car and detained the occupants: Wood, who was the driver, and passenger Michael King, the complaint stated.
Wood allegedly told Salamanca Police that he had permission from the vehicle owner to use it; he did not, according to the complaint.
He is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $25,000 in this case.
Wood also had preliminary hearings scheduled Wednesday for three other cases: two DUI cases and a misdemeanor theft case.
