ST. MARYS — The pedestrian who was killed by a train on Friday has been identified as a Ridgway man.
“The victim has been positively identified as Steven L. Gnan, Jr., 41, of Ridgway,” Elk County Coroner Michelle A. Muccio-Krise announced on Saturday.
Muccio-Krise said that the train versus pedestrian accident happened about 4:25 p.m. Friday in Ridgway Borough.
“A train operated by Genesee and Wyoming Northern Region Railroad was traveling westbound through Ridgway at approximately 30 miles per hour when it struck a pedestrian on the railroad track,” she explained.
Elk County Chief Deputy Coroner Philip G. Hoh pronounced Gnan dead at the scene.
“The cause of death was massive blunt force trauma, and the manner of death is still under investigation by the Coroner’s Office at this time,” said Muccio-Krise.
