BOOK SPINE POETRY: The Bradford Area Public Library is encouraging readers to create a poem using the spines of books. The library will continue to sponsor the Book Spine Poetry Challenge throughout the remainder of April.
Winners will be chosen in three categories: age 0-10 children, age 11-18 tween and adult (19+). In order to enter, a photo of the book spine poem should be emailed to marketing@bradfordlibrary.org.
Some of the creative submissions already received have been posted to the library’s Facebook page.

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE: April is Financial Literacy Awareness month. Below are some financial literacy principles, as found through Rutgers University:
— Budget your money. It is common to hear “Pay yourself first,” and creating a budget that carefully balances the four uses can be important to success. Those uses are spending, saving, investing and giving away. Saving should be prioritized at the same level as the other three.
— Don’t expect something for nothing. As the phrase goes, “If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” Be wary of any advertisements promising something for free.
— Map your financial future. Experts advise everyone to take the time to list financial goals, set a deadline and develop a plan to achieve those goals.
— Don’t borrow what you can’t repay. This is important when considering loans. Also, it is important to compare interest rates.
— Remember the rule of 72. Divide the interest rate into 72. For example, an account earning 6% interest will double in twelve years (72 divided by 6 equals 12).
