DUKE CENTER — Spring clean-up for Otto Township residents will be June 14.
The announcement was made at a recent Otto Township supervisors meeting. The cost is $30 per household, with an extra charge for tires and unusually large amounts. Anyone with questions may call the township office at 966-3553 during business hours. Residents are encouraged to refrain from putting their junk out too far in advance.
Police chief Donald Nies reported that the department has been busy with vehicle accidents and domestic calls. He commended the students and staff at the O-E schools for their cooperation and understanding when an officer is present at either the high school or the grade school.
Chief Nies and the blight committee have succeeded in getting two junked vehicles moved and are steadily cleaning up some of the township properties that were in violation of the newly-adopted code. One resident is being ordered to comply or face jail time.
The ball fields in the Otto Recreation Park are once again teeming with teams of all ages. The supervisors, and everyone, are glad to see baseball and other activities returning to near normal, at least.
The recently purchased dump truck is now in use, prompting “Old Yeller” to be placed up for bid. Details can be secured via the township office or any employee.
It was unanimously voted to purchase a new zero-turn mower from Jim Coast Sales and Service for use in the park and other township properties.
A vacant, delinquent property in Rixford was awarded to the highest ($2,200) of three submitted bids.
Township officials were reminded by resident Sharon Schwab of their agreement to maintain the four Welcome to Otto Township signs. And supervisor Mike Ogilvie will head the reinstallation (and new installations) of the military honor plaques along Main Street in Duke Center and Looker Mountain Trail in Rixford. It was agreed to leave these up year round.
And, a reminder — As of now, the 2021 Otto Township Old Home Days will be held. The dates are July 23, 24, 25. The next OHD meeting will be this Sunday at Magee’s Garage in Rixford. Volunteers are needed and encouraged to attend.
