GALETON — On a chilly afternoon, the Otto-Eldred baseball team’s bats warmed up to score 11 runs on nine hits en route to an 11-4 win over Galeton in Northern Allegheny action on Friday.
Josh Rhinehart went 3-for-4 on the night, and two of those hits soared over the fence. He hit a two-run homer in the second inning and another two-run shot in the sixth, both of them to right field.
Ryan Love collected two hits in three plate appearances, including a double. He drove in three runs and scored twice.
The two teams were tied up at 2-2 after the first inning before O-E scored five runs over the next two innings. The Terrors then padded their lead with a three-run sixth later on.
Jake Merry struck out seven Galeton batters while surrendering six hits and two earned runs in five innings on the mound. Cole Sebastian came on in relief in the sixth inning. He allowed one run, one hit and struck out three.
“We definitely didn’t play a clean game defensively, but we pitched well and had some big timely hits,” O-E coach Lance Baker said. “(I’m) proud of the way our kids gutted out a win in the cold and (it) puts us in a good spot for a big week next week.”
Ty Stover drove in one run on one hit in four plate appearances for the Tigers (3-3).
On the mound, Tre Slawson pitched 4.1 innings and allowed eight hits, seven runs (five earned) and struck out five. Gavin Sykora and Jake Cochran came on in relief and combined to give up four runs.
Otto Eldred improved to 3-0 on the season with two of those games having been decided by seven runs or more.
The Terrors will face Coudersport, Bradford and Johnsonburg next week.
