SMETHPORT — An Erie man accused of firearm possession after he shot an alleged home intruder was sentenced to jail time Thursday in McKean County Court.

James G. Williams III, 28, of Erie, will serve nine to 18 months in McKean County Jail with credit for one day of time served. He pleaded guilty April 8 to one charge of possession of firearm prohibited.

Williams entered the plea to allegations that he was a fugitive of justice for a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence out of Ohio and had been a fugitive since Sept. 5, 2012. On Dec. 29, he used a firearm, despite being prohibited due both due to the domestic violence charge and his status as a fugitive. The firearm was loaded, and there was ammunition available.

The sentence also includes a requirement that Williams have no contact with the man he shot, Carlos Gamble. Gamble suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting.

Williams was not criminally charged for the shooting itself, as law enforcement determined it to be justified.

Gamble, who faces trespassing and assault charges, has a last-day-to-plea conference set for May 20.

Also in court, Andrew I. Meadows, 19, of Bradford, was sentenced to 18 months of probation for a charge of theft of lost property.

John A. Ribble, 39, of Kane, will serve one year of probation for charges of receiving stolen property and possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use. Ribble pleaded guilty March 18 to allegations that in March 2020, he received an iPhone XR knowing it was stolen, and he possessed .44 grams of marijuana for personal use.

Lori J. Braun, 64, of Erie, will serve six months of probation with a period of restrictive sanctions for charges of DU-alcohol and summary charges.

Jill A. Patton, 62, of Bradford, will serve six months of probation with a period of restrictive sanctions for charges of DUI-alcohol and a summary charge.
