KUDOS: Patrick Johnston sent us a note of pride for his hometown, and we thought it was important to share it with our readers.
Johnston wrote, “It was a good sight seeing local firefighters and EMS workers out this weekend cleaning the sidewalks downtown, and I want to add a thank you to Chip Comilla and the parks department for addressing the issue I had with the trash encountered in Callahan park and the Zippo trail over the past weekend. I personally cleaned up and what I couldn’t get to Chip and his crew took care of the rest in a matter of hours.”
Johnston had some strong opinions of those who drink energy drinks yet fail to have the energy to find a trash can once the beverage can is empty, but said he’ll leave that for another time. He finished with “a huge thank you to the people who try to keep my hometown a beautiful place to live.”
Johnston shared a photo of the mess left before it was cleaned, and we are grateful that was quickly addressed as well.

ANOTHER NOTE: Earth Day is coming up (April 22) and this is a great reminder that garbage tossed wherever during the winter is bound to make its ugly appearance when the winter snows melt.
Do everyone a favor and plan a walk through one of your favorite nature areas to see what you can do to help clean up.
Roughly 1 billion people in 193 countries participate in Earth Day. Activities also include making an effort to reduce, reuse and recycle, planting a tree or conserving water.
