Construction activities are completed for the new 24-inch water transmission main for the Bradford City Water Authority.
At Wednesday’s meeting, Executive Director Steve Disney updated authority members on the status of the project. Bankson Engineers have submitted the permit completion report and construction photos to the state Department of Environmental Protection, and is continuing to work on record drawings based on contractors’ drawings and inspectors’ records.
Final restoration work will be performed in the spring, he explained.
Construction activities are completed on the Kenmar Acres main line extension as well. The authority has received $350,000 from the Pa. Small Water & Sewer program, and all final paperwork has been submitted to the state Department of Community and Economic Development. Eight new customers had tapped in to the line as of the end of February, Disney said.
“Reminder notice letters will be sent to the remaining residents indicating the deadline for mandatory connection to the water system is July 2, 2021,” he added.
Two filters at the treatment plant will be rehabilitated beginning the week of April 12. Swanson’s Excavation and Fabrication has been issued the notice to proceed, and 180 calendar days have been allotted for time for completion.
A pilot study on the treatment plant feed polymer addition will begin the first week of August and continue through December or January. This will allow for the study to span both warm and cold water cycles, Disney said.
A new 24-inch insertion valve will be installed on Tuesday at the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, prior to the May 11 start of the campus distribution system improvement project.
Under new business, the authority accepted a bid from Bob Cummins Construction in the amount of $83,000 for work at the Gilbert raw water pumps station for general construction, and from Pure Tech LLC for $29,967 for electrical work. Both were recommended by Randy Krause of Bankson Engineers.
Authority members also noted that the Gilbert Access Road will remain closed until at least April 12 to allow for complete thawing of the road base to occur, and for maintenance to be conducted.
