HARRISBURG — Jeanne Wambaugh, district forester at the Elk State Forest, retired from the ranks of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry on March 12.
She had been the district forester of the Elk State Forest, which encompasses state forest land in Cameron and Elk counties along with portions of Potter and Clinton counties, since 2004. Before her most recent duty she also worked in the Sproul and Susquehannock State Forests, starting as a forest fire lookout in 1986 and working in various capacities along the way.
Her 35 years of experience and leadership will be missed not only at the Elk State Forest, which is based out of Emporium, but statewide as she was active on Incident Management Teams that assisted on events such as wildfires, searches, or even Covid-19 testing sites.
During this time of transition to a new District Forester, the staff of the Elk State Forest will be available to assist the public.
