The McKean County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is looking for volunteers.
The need is two-fold: the first need is for volunteers for Tuesday’s vaccine clinic, set to be held at the former St. Bernard School on West Washington Street from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Volunteers are needed for six-hour blocks, the first from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the second from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Jerry Rettger of the EMA explained that the six-hour blocks are intended to keep the clinic moving smoothly and make sure that adequate staffing is on-site at all times.
He noted that, while clerical experience would be helpful, most of the volunteers are needed to help with general tasks. They are hoping to have 20 volunteers for each shift.
The second need for volunteers is both prior to Tuesday and after. That volunteer group will help man the phone bank at the EMA office in Smethport.
The EMA currently has six phones and hopes to have volunteers manning the phone bank from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at least two days per week.
The current task for these volunteers is scheduling appointments for the vaccine clinic based on waiting lists from Bradford Regional Medical Center and other medical providers.
“Once we complete that list and get that clinic scheduled, we will open the phone bank up to those who want to be put on a list for future clinics as they occur,” Rettger said.
For the phone bank, volunteer blocks are more flexible. They hope to have six people at a time to cover the 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. window.
Clerical experience, such as handling phone calls and typing skills, are helpful for this particular task.
