Spring is on its way, though winter weather will be hanging on today, with a bit of wintry precipitation this morning, according to Steve Travis, meteorologist from the National Weather Service in State College.
“There could be a little bit of wintry precipitation — a little bit of light snow; could be some sleet and freezing rain,” he explained. “Things could be a little slippery in the morning, especially if there are any roads or sidewalks that don’t have any salt on them.”
According to Travis, the precipitation could start around sunrise, though any threat of precipitation should end by around noon or 1 p.m.
“There won’t be a lot of it, but even with just a little freezing rain, it could be very slippery, which is why there’s a winter weather advisory,” he noted.
Today’s high will be a chilly 31 degrees, though Travis said the area will begin to warm up again Wednesday, with a high near 50 degrees, and Thursday will have a high in the mid 40s.
Friday will again become a bit colder, with a high in the upper 30s. The sun will return this weekend, where Saturday is expected to have a high around 46 degrees, and temperatures Sunday are expected to go up to 55 degrees.
As for average temperature, the area has reportedly been slightly above what is typical, averaging around two degrees above normal so far this month. Precipitation-wise, the area is below normal by about half an inch.
