A Bradford man was jailed Wednesday on allegations that he broke into a Coudersport home and stole a dog.
Zachery L. Cox, 22, of 26 Miller St., Apt. 2, Bradford, was arrested in Bradford on a felony warrant out of Potter County. A criminal complaint out of District Judge Annette Easton’s office states that Cox is charged with burglary and criminal trespassing, second-degree felonies; and theft by unlawful taking, a second-degree misdemeanor.
Cox went before District Judge Richard Luther Wednesday evening, who set bail at $50,000.
According to the criminal complaint, at 10:55 a.m. July 31, a female called state police to report that someone broke into her apartment sometime between 9 p.m. and midnight July 30 on Avenue A in Coudersport.
The alleged intruder — who the female believed to be Cox — entered by removing the air conditioner and entering through the window. The only thing she noticed to be missing was her black pit bull, the complaint stated.
No possible motive was given for the theft.
At 4:05 p.m. Aug. 1, the female called state police again to tell them that Cox admitted that he is in possession of her dog, court records stated.
The complaint alleged that a trooper spoke to Cox over the phone at 12:35 p.m. Aug. 7, and Cox denied entering the apartment and taking the dog.
Cox will be returned to Potter County to answer to the above allegations.
