The Bradford Chess Club took a break from league matches this past week to compete in a speed chess tournament Feb. 17 at the First Baptist Church on Congress Street.
Junior varsity players were divided into two sections: JV-1 and JV-2. Ryan Ferguson served as tournament director for JV-1, while Ron Buchheit organized and directed JV-2.
First and second place were awarded in both sections. In JV-1, first place was awarded to Sylvia Bysiek, who won all of her games. Second place honors were earned by Kadyn Tessena, who was only nicked for a draw by Lucas Wallace. In JV-2, top honors went to Luke Erickson with a perfect score, and second place went to Ivan Seals.
For the league’s conclusion today, puzzles, pizza, and prizes will be enjoyed in the final session of the Bradford Businessmen’s 30th annual chess league.
