A Shinglehouse man is in Potter County Jail on allegations that intentionally started a vehicle fire in January in Sharon Township, Potter County.
Roberto Diaz, 64, was arraigned Feb. 9 on charges of reckless burning or exploding-placing vehicle in danger of damage or destruction, a third-degree felony; criminal mischief, a second-degree misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use, misdemeanors; and summary dangerous burning, according to court records.
Coudersport-based state police report that the department responded on Feb. 5 to investigate a fire that happened at 4 p.m. Jan. 29 at 602 Dodge Road, Sharon Township. The fire occurred in a 2008 Jeep Compass.
Through the investigation, police determined that Diaz intentionally set the Jeep on fire, police reported. The alleged victim is listed as Leo Carpenter, 34, of Bradford.
The fire had not been reported to police, according to state police.
Police did not say how they learned of the fire or how much damage the Jeep sustained. They did not indicate that anyone was injured.
Diaz is in jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 19.
