The Friday evening fire at Kiwanis Court is under investigation by Bradford City fire investigators.
According to the Bradford City Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at 6:20 p.m. to 3 Kiwanis Court for a report of a building fire.
Officials did not report any injuries. However, some residents were displaced.
The fire department reported there to be six people living in four apartments in the building. Of those people, the Red Cross is assisting one, while others made other arrangements. Some stayed in their apartment.
An ambulance was already on scene at Kiwanis Court for an ambulance call when the call for the fire came in, so a firefighter from the ambulance ran to the fire scene to gather information for a quick scene report while fire units responded.
The department reported “heavy black smoke” in the apartment where the fire was located, along with “light smoke in the hallways.”
Tower 1 and Squad 1 responded at 6:21 p.m., and the tower arrived on scene at 6:23 p.m. Capt. Michael Scrivo and Bradford City police officers cleared the apartments of tenants, the fire department reported.
When Squad 1 arrived, crews entered the building and extinguished the fire, which was in Apt. 3A. Also, off-duty personnel were called in because of a manpower shortage from the ambulance call, the fire department reported. Firefighters were available again at 8:07 p.m.
The fire department did not list a cause for the fire but said city police are investigating it. Preliminary reports indicated the heaviest damage was in the kitchen area.
