The Bradford Sanitary Authority will have a review done to make sure it is collecting the proper stormwater fees.
The review, approved at Tuesday’s authority meeting, will look at whether all properties in Bradford City have been properly identified to be included in the stormwater program. Properties that are new, modified/revised or were previously overlooked will be evaluated.
In other news, the Bradford Sanitary Authority has agreed to supply a load of activated sludge to the Keating Township Sanitary Plant to re-seed the 80,000-gallon sewage treatment plant. Something infiltrated the Keating Township plant’s sludge, killed the microlife and created excess ammonia. An independent sludge hauler will transport the sludge.
The sanitary and water authorities also met recently with the local Office of Economic and Community Development to review its list of pending projects.
By keeping communication open between the three groups, they hope to prevent future issues related to upcoming projects. Also, there might be sanitary and water projects that should be done before streetscape improvements are done.
Over the weekend, an operator at the plant found one to two feet of influent water in the pump side of the headworks 2 building. A faulty check valve on a sump pump in the area caused a back syphoning of the wet well.
To fix the problem, they removed the water with a three-inch trash pump, replaced the check valve and shortened the discharge pump to prevent future syphoning.
The authority has several pumps that have been undergoing repairs.
Pump 3 in the south headworks is being repaired at National Pump and Seal, and it is expected to be reinstalled in late February or early March. A final effluent pump is also out for repairs and is expected to be brought back next week. A CAS RAS pump has been reinstalled and is working well.
The authority has learned they will be able to use PENNVEST funds from Phase II of the plant rehab to remove the smoke stack, which they want to remove for safety reasons. PENNVEST will issue an agreement for a change in scope, and Gannett Fleming is helping to formulate bid specs.
Sanitary authority employees have received their second round of COVID-19 shots. They experienced more side effects than after the first shots.
Also under employee news, three will attend a Leadership McKean workshop Wednesday on “Building Your Personal Brand.”
