CHAIRAPY SESSIONS: Bradford native Tate Yohe, now a Master Barber in Mechanicsburg, not only provides a listening ear to clients, but he has found them an audience for their stories.
Yohe works at Comb and Scissors Barbershop in Mechanicsburg, providing haircuts — and a therapeutic conversation — to residents of the area.
”There is something magical that happens when a guy sits in that chair and in my chair specifically. They just open up and start talking about everything and anything,” Yohe said in a recent article published as part of a Proudly PA segment on Harrisburg’s Local 21 News.
Yohe felt that others needed to hear the stories of his clients, and after receiving permission to share them, he and Cinematographer William Leigh got to work.
The duo have a YouTube Channel where episodes of “Chairapy Sessions” are posted for the enjoyment of viewers anywhere, in hopes of providing entertainment during a difficult time.
The show shares the stories of customers, but it primarily shares those of veterans who visit the shop.
“Our first episode is with Christina from the Army and to hear her story from being in the Army for 18 years and 3 deployments,” Yohe explained.
Yohe explained that the episodes were shot before the onset of COVID-19, and since they started posting, Yohe has more than 17,000 followers on Instagram. A sponsor, U Financial, event stepped in to provide backing for 10 episodes.
Comb and Scissors Barbershop is the backdrop to the stories, making it possible to share these with the viewers. The barbershop has a 50-year history of service to the Mechanicsburg community.
