A staff member at Port Allegany High School has tested positive for COVID-19.
This, added to a single case of a student testing positive in late January, means that Port Allegany High School will be required to transition to remote learning Feb. 9 to 11.
A letter from Superintendent Gary Buchsen, sent out to families on Monday, explained that these cases are cause for closure of the building because of the agreement signed by Port Allegany school officials and requirements set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
The district has a winter break planned, which means that in-person instruction will resume Feb. 16.
As of Monday, all students who may have had close contact with the individual who tested positive for COVID-19 have been notified and will be following quarantine protocols as necessary.
The Port Allegany Elementary School will continue with in-person instruction during this period. However, parents are reminded that afternoon drop-off times will be 15 minutes earlier than normal for today, Wednesday and Thursday.
Updates will be made available to families as new information becomes available. Families are reminded to watch for symptoms of COVID-19, including, coughing, fever, chills, congestion, sore throat, body aches and loss of the sense of taste or smell. If a student begins to experience symptoms, families are asked to notify the school office.
