A Bradford man suffered extensive leg injuries in a crash in front of 205 Hedgehog Lane just before 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Bradford Township Police Chief Robb Shipman said a pickup truck driven by Lloyd Baribeau was traveling south on Hedgehog Lane when the truck went out of control, over an embankment and into a tree, uprooting the tree, which then fell onto the truck.
A passenger in the truck, Andrew Piganelli, also the vehicle’s owner, was trapped in the truck. Baribeau, uninjured, got out of the truck and was located down the road, Shipman said, adding that he believes Baribeau was leaving the scene as he didn’t have a driver’s license.
Emergency crews estimated it took about 45 minutes to free Piganelli from the wreckage. Bradford Township and Corydon Township volunteer firefighters were joined by Bradford City ambulance personnel in working to free Piganelli from the truck. As of Tuesday evening, he was at Bradford Regional Medical Center, as medical helicopters were unable to fly due to weather conditions.
Shipman said the truck was totaled. The road was closed while the rescue crews worked.
He added that the roads had been treated and sanded, and were not covered with snow or ice. He said speed may have been a factor in the crash.
The crash is still under investigation, and Baribeau is facing charges, the chief said.
“I would ask that people slow down and pay attention when they are driving,” Shipman said.
Bradford City Fire Department, Derrick City and Lewis Run Volunteer Fire Departments were on standby.
