School officials announced Wednesday that new cases of COVID-19 among School Street Elementary School students have been reported.
The statement, released via social media and the school’s website, explained that the current remote instruction period, set to end today, has been extended through the end of next week.
School Street will not re-open for in-person instruction until Monday, Feb. 8.
The statement goes on to say, “Parents and students, please know that we understand the hardship that this brings to your homes. Our main priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We all need to do our part to mitigate this spread, so that we can get our kids back in the classroom, where they need to be.”
As of Wednesday, McKean County had 1,976 confirmed cases and 681 probable cases of COVID-19. That is an increase of 45 cases from Tuesday’s numbers. In Bradford, there were 813 confirmed cases and 156 probable, up 31 cases from Tuesday’s report.
School Street transitioned to remote learning Monday, and had planned to open the doors to students again today.
Floyd C. Fretz Middle School students were taught remotely on Monday. However, they returned to in-person instruction Tuesday.
Breakfast and lunch will be available for pickup during the remote learning period. A form to fill out is available on School Street’s Facebook page. The form needs to be filled out by 9 a.m. each delivery day, which includes Thursday, Feb. 1 and Feb. 4.
The meals will be available from 10 — 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 — 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays.
