PORTVILLE, N.Y. — Beginning Friday, kids will not only be able to enjoy the snow, but also a new storybook adventure while walking through the Lillibridge Property at Pfeiffer Nature Center.
The new Children’s Storybook Trail at Lillibridge is expected to entertain and intrigue youngsters and their parents throughout the month of February.
During the outdoor adventure, children will read a tale titled “The Night Before Groundhog Day” on the Interpretive Trail at Pfeiffer. The trail is an easy .36 mile round trip walk along Griffin’s Way, which is an old-growth hemlock forest.
Pfeiffer staff said the storybook pages of the tale are held in place by the gentle giant trees which can be read as they pass by. Staff said children should be sure to read both sides of the tree, or they may miss some of the story.
To find out where the adventure begins, children and their parents are asked to see Pfeiffer’s map at the Lillibridge kiosk.
Although the book is a great kick-off to celebrate Groundhog Day on Feb.2, it is also a fun read whenever families choose to visit, staff added.
The Lillibridge Property is located at 1974 Lillibridge Road in Portville. Pfeiffer officials report that they would appreciate it if children and their families share pictures during their adventure and let them know how they enjoyed their visit by sending emails to: naturalist@pfeiffernaturecenter.org
