Take Off Pounds Sensibly Chapter #1704 gathered at 5:30 p.m. Monday on the second floor of the Gleason Building, 90 Boylston St., Bradford.
The meeting was brought to order by Silvana R., chapter leader. There were seven members who weighed in with a combined loss of 5.4 pounds.
Dyvonte’ M. was named Best Loser for the week. The Loser In Waiting and Officer Of The Week was Denise T.
In continuance of business for the month of December, Doug C. was named the Chapter King.
Silvana shared some interesting information found in the January/February TOPS News magazine titled “Simply Sweet Swaps.” This article shares tips to steer clear of foods with “added sugars.” The American Heart Association suggests women and children limit the amount of added sugars consumed to less than 25 grams, and for men, less than 38.
Where can people find out how many grams of added sugars are in their foods? By simply reading nutrition labels. Find the category “Total Carbohydrates” or “Carbs.” Below the category name are the amounts in grams of fiber, total sugars and the most recently added facts: added sugars.
The article advises people to swap out bread that has more than 2 grams of added sugar per slice with a whole-wheat bread that has less than 2 grams per slice. This way, people can save them for something they expect to be sweet.
The item to try this week is salmon or tuna, and members are to avoid snacking after dinner, unless a medical situation requires a snack — preferably a healthy one — later in the evening.
With regards to the Jan. 25 meeting, there will be a weigh-in only. Guests interested in attending should arrive at the club’s regularly scheduled time on the following Monday — Feb. 1.
