A Georgia-Pacific plant closure in Easton will have no impact on local operations, according to Tom Strother, public affairs liaison for Georgia-Pacific.
“There will be absolutely no impact on the Bradford facility — that is an entirely different division of the company,” he said.
Strother confirmed that Dixie cup production is being consolidated to the Lexington, Ky. area. However, that move will have no bearing on the corrugated box production handled by the Bradford facility.
On a positive note, he also shared that work at the Bradford facility has been in high gear as more people have turned to online ordering due to the coronavirus pandemic and increased time at home.
“Business is booming, as you might imagine, due to e-commerce,” Strothers said Thursday afternoon.
Information released Jan. 15 indicated that the Lehigh Valley Dixie cup manufacturing facility will close permanently by the end of 2021. That will result in the loss of 190 jobs in the Lehigh Valley area, while the expansion in Kentucky will create 50 additional jobs.
During the transition, the Lehigh Valley site will continue to make cups. Machinery and equipment will be relocated to the Lexington facility over a period of several months.
The move is intended to “create a single, high quality facility for cup-making” in Lexington, according to the release.
