Otto-Eldred High School received reports of multiple positive cases of COVID-19 over the weekend. As part of the required protocols, the school building was disinfected and those determined to be in close contact with the individuals who tested positive for the coronavirus have been notified so they can begin a 14-day quarantine.
In addition, students were transitioned to remote instruction for Monday. This, along with the two days of the weekend, fulfills the required three-day break whenever COVID-19 cases reach a certain level, as set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. According to Matthew Splain, Otto-Eldred superintendent, students will return to in-person instruction today.
For Monday’s education, students were advised that teachers would have materials for them.
As of Monday, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported that Eldred has 98 confirmed cases and 17 probable, while Duke Center has 24 confirmed cases and six probable.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Kane Area School District was made aware that a district staff member tested positive for COVID-19. No students or staff were in close contact with this individual, so Kane Area School District continued with in-person instruction as normal.
Port Allegany High School recently switched to remote learning for a three-day period. High school students were taught remotely from Wednesday through Friday last week, while the elementary students received in-person instruction. Port Allegany had a regularly scheduled in-service day Monday, and all students return to in-person instruction today.
