RIDGWAY — The North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission will host a webinar called “What are the Powder Metal & Carbon Industries Link to the Defense Production Act and Programs and Initiatives?”
The webinar will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday.
It will focus on strategic initiatives overseen by the Department of Defense and the U.S. Commercial Service in Canada that could create opportunities for the North Central Pennsylvania Powdered Metals and Carbon based industries.
Opening remarks will be presented by U.S. Rep Glenn Thompson, R-Pa. The agenda and sign on link for industry briefing will be sent to participants upon registration.
Speakers will be Kyle Wells, Canada desk officer, U.S. Department of Commerce; and Matthew D. Zolnowski, special advisor, Strategic Materials, Materials Sector Lead Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Policy U.S. Department of Defense.
Zolnowski currently serves as a special advisor for Strategic Materials and a Highly qualified Expert (HQE) at the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Policy (Industrial Policy). In this capacity he monitors the health of the materials sector of the defense and essential civilian industrial base and is responsible for developing policy to ensure this sector is ready to support the requirements of the National Defense Strategy.
Wells is the Canada Desk Officer at the International Trade Administration. In this role, he develops and implements trade policies to strengthen the competitiveness of U.S. industry by promoting trade and inward investment and addressing market access barriers in the Canadian market. He has worked on major bilateral policy initiatives for the Department of Commerce, including the Beyond the Border Action Plan, the U.S.-Canada Regulatory Cooperation Council, and the U.S.-Canada Action Plan for Critical Minerals Cooperation, where he is the industry engagement co-lead.
