Felony drug charges added to case against Bradford man
An additional felony charge was added to a case against a Bradford man accused of running from police officers while he was wanted on a warrant.
James L. Nitsos, 34, had all charges against him bound to McKean County Court at a hearing Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone.
With the new charge, here are all the charges against Nitsos: two counts of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, felonies; one count of flight to avoid apprehension, a third-degree felony; possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors.
The new charge was added due to allegations that Nitsos possessed about 252 pills with the intent to distribute them, court records indicate.
According to the criminal complaint, at 2:54 p.m. Dec. 18, Bradford City Police learned that Nitsos, who had an active warrant for his arrest, was spotted walking on Main Street.
When Nitsos saw the officer signal to him, Nitsos turned and ran down south on Festival Way toward St. Bernard Church, and the officer started to chase him, the complaint stated.
According to court records, the officer chased Nitsos along the west side of the church, then in front of the Comfort Inn. Another officer arrived in a patrol car, drove in front of Nitsos and exited the car.
The complaint stated that officers took several plastic bags containing white prescription pills from Nitsos’ pants pocket. Also, they took a black fanny pack he was wearing that contained the following: small plastic baggies containing suspected methamphetamine, 17 yellow prescription containers of 8 mg buprenorphine/naloxone/sublingual film, three Visa cards belonging to other people, a driver’s license, someone else’s medical marijuana card, 14.4 grams of meth and a digital scale with a white powder on it.
Nitsos is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Drug, flight charges against Bradford man bound to court
A Bradford man who is accused of fleeing Bradford City Police and possessing methamphetamine had all charges against him bound to McKean County Court at a hearing before District Judge Dominic Cercone.
Derik N. Nelson, 22, is charged with possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony; fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, a third-degree felony; possession of a controlled substance and DUI-controlled substance, misdemeanors; and five summary traffic violations.
According to the criminal complaint, at 8:32 p.m. Dec. 10, a patrolman tried to pull over a gas-powered mini bike operated by Nelson, but Nelson continued to drive away, traveling through multiple stop signs. Police followed Nelson on Congress Street, Park Street, Chestnut Street Extension, Jefferson Street, Thompson Avenue.
Court records indicate that during the chase, Nelson was trying to get the mini bike to go faster but was unsuccessful, and the officer was able to pull next to Nelson to try to identify him; Nelson hid his face with his sweatshirt and pulled behind a business on Chestnut Street Extension.
Because of how slow Nelson was going, a second officer was able to run up to the mini bike and push Nelson enough to knock him off balance and slow him down, and Nelson ended up trying to run away on foot, the complaint indicated.
Police took him into custody and found he had in his possession a digital scale and about 17.3 grams of suspected meth, according to court records.
Nelson is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Fleeing charges against Bradford man bound to court
Charges against a Bradford man accused of fleeing from state troopers were bound to McKean County Court at a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Richard Luther.
Michael M. Maddox, 25, is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, a third-degree felony; flight to avoid apprehension, a second-degree misdemeanor; and three summary traffic violations.
According to court records, at 2:11 a.m. Nov. 28, Maddox fled from two state troopers from Lewis Run who tried to pull him over for a red light hanging below the bumper of his pick-up truck. Maddox allegedly led troopers down Commerce Drive in Foster Township.
The troopers tried to pull in front of the truck at the dead end, but the truck pulled in front of the patrol vehicle, nearly striking the front passenger side, the criminal complaint stated.
During the course of the chase, Maddox nearly rolled his truck over twice, and the vehicle chase ended when the truck became stuck on a log. He then fled on foot, according to the complaint.
Law enforcement from several departments were brought in to search for Maddox, but he was not found that day.
State police reported that Maddox was pulled over Dec. 12 for a vehicle code violation, and, in a subsequent search of the vehicle, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was found.
Maddox is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
