Escape charges
against Bradford man bound to court
A Bradford man who has several active criminal cases had escape charges against him bound to McKean County Court at a preliminary hearing before District Judge Wililam Todd.
Daniel J. Roach, 45, is charged in this case with criminal attempt-escape, a third-degree felony, and institutional vandalism, a second-degree misdemeanor.
According to Lewis Run-based state police, in November, state troopers were dispatched to the McKean County Jail, 17013 U.S. Route 6, Keating Township, for a report of an attempted escape.
Through their investigation, troopers found that Roach put a hole in the yard fence to try to escape, police alleged.
Court records indicate that Roach has at least six active criminal cases: five in McKean County and one in Venango County.
In the newest case, arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday for charges including DUI-controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia for allegations stemming from July 7 in Hamilton Township, McKean County.
In the other three McKean County cases, Roach faces allegations including running a methamphetamine operation, raping a child, having a minor hold onto a firearm for him and threatening Children and Youth Services employees and law enforcement officials, according to court records.
In Venango County, he is accused of smuggling meth into a facility that offers residential and counseling services and giving the meth to minors, officials allege.
Roach is incarcerated in McKean County Jail.

Hurst man bound to court
A Hazel Hurst man accused of assault had charges against him bound to McKean County Court at a preliminary hearing Monday before District Judge David Engman.
Jeffrey P. Carney, 49, is charged with strangulation, a second-degree felony; terroristic threats, a first-degree misdemeanor; false imprisonment and simple assault, second-degree misdemeanors; harassment, a third-degree misdemeanor; and summary counts of harassment and criminal mischief.
According to the criminal complaint, on Oct. 30, during an argument between Carney and a woman that lasted throughout the day, Carney put his hands around her neck at least four times and punched her in the face at one point, breaking her glasses.
She tried to leave, but he would not let her, and he kept her from calling for medical and law enforcement assistance, the complaint stated. She was able to escape after he fell asleep.
Carney is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
