City of Bradford Mayor James McDonald issued a statement Tuesday warning of a potential email scam.
According to McDonald, at least two city employees received emails claiming to be McDonald, sent from an email address that was not McDonald’s official city email, j.mcdonald@bradfordpa.com.
McDonald explained the emails are requesting that people purchase gift cards or forward money.
“It absolutely is not me. Block the sender and delete the email immediately. My city email address is the only one I use to contact people for city business,” McDonald said via social media.
He reminded residents and city employees alike that it is important to be safe online and always verify the identity of the person with whom you are communicating.
