Bradford native Austin Jadlowiec has a long history with the Envirothon, a natural resource environmental education program that combines classroom learning and outdoor activities.
He was a member of the Bradford Bees team, participating in the local “Wild” Envirothon for Bradford Area High School from 2015 through 2018.
And now, Pennsylvania participants in the Envirothon will be able to better prepare for county and state level events using the Pennsylvania Envirothon App, developed by Jadlowiec.
The app is also a nature learning tool for anyone, students or adults. The PA State Employees Credit Union (PSECU) is the “PA Envirothon Digital First” sponsor and has provided funding for this important digital tool. The app is free to download for Apple or Android devices.
Jadlowiec’s team qualified for the PA Envirothon in 2016 and 2018; placing seventh overall in 2018. Those experiences propelled him to apply for an internship at the McKean County Conservation District in 2019. He spent the summer months utilizing GIS tools to map invasive plants, survey county roads, and identify aquatic organism passage barriers. While a college freshman, prior to starting his internship, Jadlowiec also volunteered at the ‘Wild’ Envirothon.
He is a dual major at the University of Pittsburgh in math and computer engineering. He was contracted by the Pennsylvania Envirothon for this special project.
