A Bradford man was arrested Friday on allegations that he raped a woman in Ridgway Township.
Richard C. Buterbaugh III, 28, is charged with rape-forcible compulsion, a first-degree felony; simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor; and two counts of harassment, summary charges.
According to Ridgway-based state police, troopers received a report of a rape at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Through investigation, they determined that Buterbaugh forcibly raped a 25-year-old woman on Ridgway-Johnsonburg Road in Ridgway Township. Officers took Buterbaugh into custody.
Police said Buterbaugh was initially placed in Elk County Jail, but court records indicate that Buterbaugh then posted $25,000 bail and is free. He was arraigned before District Judge Barry Brown, and a preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 20.
Federal court records indicate that Buterbaugh, along with his brother, Ryan Buterbaugh, 23, is currently under supervision for 2016 federal drug charges in New York state.
According to court records, Richard Buterbaugh was sentenced Sept. 13, 2018, to 51 months in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons and four years of supervised release after he pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.
Meanwhile, Ryan Buterbaugh was sentenced Nov. 15, 2018, to 87 months of supervision with the Bureau of Prisons and four years of supervised release after pleading guilty to a charge of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, court records stated.
The brothers were arrested on the charges in 2016 after an undercover officer made arrangements to purchase crack cocaine from them in Ellicottville, N.Y., according to court records filed at the time of their arrest.
