Big Sister Sharon Kohler and Little Sister Justice Peterson recently celebrated their 11-year match anniversary through The Guidance Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters Program. With Peterson recently turning 18, the match will no longer be eligible for Big Brothers Big Sisters program services, though Kohler fondly looked back on how little and shy Justice was when they were first matched, stating that their match has been “a highlight of her life” and that she has gained a lifetime friend.
“Peterson has become a part of our family — immediate and extended,” said Kohler.
The match has numerous photo albums from their trips and activities over the years, sharing funny and memorable experiences.
When asked to describe their relationship, Peterson said “It’s really good; I’ll call Sharon when I’m having a bad day in college.”
Peterson has already earned her CNA and has been accepted into college for nursing. Since Peterson is going to become a nurse, Kohler jokingly says that “she’ll take care of me when I’m old.”
Both Kohler and Peterson are encouraging others to become involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters to create their own relationships, stories and memories.
