Port Allegany School District Superintendent Gary Buchsen issued a letter Thursday informing families that the high school will be having a remote learning day today.
According to Buchsen, officials were notified that the high school had three positive cases of COVID-19, two involving students and one a staff member, on Thursday.
With these new cases, the rolling 14-day average means that the Port Allegany High School will be required to close for in-person instruction. Students in grades 7 — 12 will transition to remote learning, logging into classes at regular times.
Meanwhile, teachers will be in their classrooms, facilitating the remote instruction.
In-person instruction will resume Monday.
This closure is to keep the district in compliance with the attestation form ensuring implementation of mitigation efforts, which the Pennsylvania Department of Education required school districts to sign before Dec. 1 if they intended to continue with in-person instruction models.
The mandated closures can last anywhere from three to 14 days.
According to the release, the Port Allegany Elementary School will be open for in-person classes. District transportation for elementary students will be at the regular times.
Buchsen concluded by saying the district is monitoring the situation and an update will be provided if anything changes.
