SMETHPORT — A Mount Jewett man accused of asking for sexual images from two children over social media will serve time in state prison.
Dustin T. Sherwood, 26, was sentenced to three to six years in state prison with credit for 188 days of time served. He was sentenced Thursday in McKean County Court before President Judge John Pavlock.
Sherwood will have to register as a sex offender for 25 years, according to District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer.
Sherwood is to have no contact with the victim or the victim’s immediate family, and he is to have no unsupervised contact with any minors.
On Sept. 3, Sherwood pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual abuse of children and one count each of unlawful contact with a minor and obscene and other sexual materials and performances.
On the day Sherwood entered his plea, Shaffer explained that between Jan. 30 and Jan. 31, Sherwood created a fake Facebook account and began communicating with a 13-year-old girl and her 8-year-old female friend. He asked for “naughty pictures” and directed them to touch each other’s genitals. Also, he sent multiple pictures of male genitalia. Shaffer noted Sherwood claimed his actions were his way of teaching “internet safety.”
