Otto-Eldred School District is dealing with potential cases of COVID-19 in the high school. As a result, O-E high school students will transition to remote learning for today and Friday.
A letter from Superintendent Matthew Splain Wednesday explained, “Today, we worked with a number of families as symptoms of coronavirus disease were present in students in the high school.”
Splain said the move is out of an abundance of caution, as the school awaits the results of testing for students.
Students in grades 7 and 8 will continue with in-person instruction. Meanwhile, a small group of 9-12 grade students will be learning on campus as well.
All extra-curricular activities are “paused” through Friday, per the letter.
An update to the future learning model will be announced by the end of the week.
Splain cautioned families to take necessary precautions, as the “Coronavirus situation in our country and our community is developing quickly.”
He suggests wearing a mask and maintaining a distance of six feet from anyone who is not a member of one’s household, as well as cooperating with the Pennsylvania Department of Health or the local health department if they make contact.
Anyone with the following symptoms of COVID-19 should contact a local health provider as well as the local health department or the Pennsylvania Department of Health: cough, shortness of breath, fever, chills or a new loss of sense of taste or smell.
These individuals are also asked to contact Mrs. Templin or either building office.
