CELEBRATING THE WRITTEN WORD: Today we’re sharing two more of Judy Peterson’s poems. For those who don’t remember, Judy is the daughter of Frances Haight, who regularly submitted poetry to ‘Round the Square. Now that Frances had to say goodbye to her computer, Judy is picking up the poetic torch. Thank you, Judy.
Our Time
Sometimes I sit and wonder
Why we never met before
Why it took until now
For us to open that door.
Maybe it’s because
We weren’t ready to trust.
Or that trying to love before
Always turned to rust.
It must be that the past
Makes us who we are today.
Maybe having been left before
Is what makes us want to stay.
Whatever the reason
I’m glad our time is here.
And that we can love each other
And be together without fear.
Let’s make the most of it
And stay together somehow.
Because I feel in my heart
That our time is now.

The Past
We all have to learn
To live in the present
To put the problems
Of the past away
And get on with our lives.
Not everyone is out to hurt you.
Some people do know
How to treat others
With respect and love
They truly deserve.
Can you put away your past?
Can you think of the future
And put the past behind you?
I know it hurts sometimes
But I’ll be there to help.
Come with me
Back to the present.
There is love here for you.
There is respect here for you.
I am here, waiting.
For you to put away the past.
