GIFTS FOR SENIORS: After a devastating year, if seniors could have anything in the world this holiday season, a new report shows their No. 1 wish is to have a home cooked meal with family.
As bad as 2020 has been for everyone, it is exponentially worse for our beloved seniors. They have accounted for 80% of COVID-19 deaths, 27% of seniors live alone and in a normal year nearly one-third experience sadness during the holidays.
This year, it is expected to be even harder, as many are unable to spend the holidays with their families because of COVID-19.
SeniorCare.com released a report Top Holiday Gifts and Gestures For Seniors in 2020 after surveying more than 10,000 seniors.
The Top 10 holiday gift ideas most liked by seniors, followed by the percentage of answers of those surveyed, are: house cleaning service (88%); chocolate (87%); fruit basket (83%); cash (79%); everyday items (stamps, shampoo, etc.) 79%; meal delivery service (Uber Eats, Grub Hub) 78%; snacks (78%); cheese and crackers (77%); gift cards (76%) and automotive service (76%).
Honorable mentions for popular gifts include flowers (72%), streaming subscriptions (60%) and a Spa Day (56%).
Meanwhile, the top 10 personal gestures seniors like to see are: providing a home cooked meal (90%); invite to restaurant for dinner (81%); and help with technology (tablet, phone, kindle) 80%. Other gestures that seniors like to see and that show you care include phone calls (80%);
help around the home (78%); declutter garage or basement (78%); handwritten cards (78%);
go grocery shopping (77%); revive family traditions (75%) and go for a walk (74%).
Honorable mentions include cleaning their car (66%), watching a movie (61%) and help them review finances (58%).
