Ridgway Area School District reported Monday that around 40 high school students were quarantined over Thanksgiving Break, including the Lady Elker Basketball Team. Following this information, the officials announced that Ridgway students will attend in-person instruction beginning Tuesday and through Friday.
According to information shared via social media, email and the district phone call system, two high school students in school the week of Nov. 23 were tested and had positive COVID-19 results.
While investigating and contact tracing the two cases, the other students were required to quarantine.
Officials say the district took the time over the break to clean, disinfect and complete contact tracing, with five days used to be compliant with the updated requirements set by the Pennsylvania Department of Health Secretary Rachel Levine’s latest order.
Officials also explained that, per the new order, if either the high school or elementary school has two to four cases, the schools will be required to close while community spread remains classified as substantial.
Parents are asked to keep children home if they are sick and families and community members are asked to wear a face covering at all times, over the mouth and nose, and maintain a social distance of six feet at all times.
Families are also asked to prepare emergency plans in case the school is required to close.
