Kane Area School District returned to school Tuesday, with two staff members in quarantine.
District Superintendent Brock Benson released information via letter Monday that informed families that two staff members in the district have tested positive for COVID-19.
Due to Thanksgiving break, no students were exposed to the two who received the positive test results. Students returned for in-person instruction Tuesday.
District officials are monitoring case counts closely, as safety, health and well-being of the district’s students are top priority, per Benson’s letter.
Families will continue to be updated as things change and any action is required.
In a letter just before Thanksgiving break, Benson informed families that, due to new orders from the Pennsylvania Department of Health Secretary Rachel Levine, Kane will be required to close Kane Area High School if two or more students or staff test positive for COVID-19, because of the district’s total student population of less than 500 students. Meanwhile, Kane Area Elementary/Middle School will be required to close if four or more students or staff test positive for COVID-19, since there are more than 500 students in that school building.
Benson explained that, if one building has the mentioned number of cases, that building might be closed while the other building remains open.
There was no mention in Monday’s letter of whether the staff members are in the same building or different ones.
