Be prepared to bundle up, as Barry Lambert from the National Weather Service in State College said the area will be looking at a dry, yet chilly holiday weekend with some possible snow on the ground by Tuesday morning.
Today is expected to be cloudy, with a high of 50 degrees during the day, dropping into the lower 30s tonight.
On Saturday, the high will be in the lower 40s, while at night it will be around 26 degrees, whereas Sunday will have highs in the upper 40s, with night time temperatures dropping to around 33 degrees.
After the relatively dry weekend, Lambert said the next chance for much needed rain will come during the day Monday, possibly starting Monday morning.
“Looks like it’s going to be a pretty good drencher right now,” he said. “For deer hunting on Monday, it will be a pretty wet day.”
Local residents may want to make sure they have their boots and some rock salt at hand, as Monday’s daytime high of 46 degrees is expected to drop to a low of 25 degrees into Monday night, potentially turning the rain into snow.
As a reminder, the area is still in a drought warning due to the less than average amount of rainfall for the year. During a drought warning, residents are asked to reduce their individual water use by 10 to 15 percent, based on a statewide average of 62 gallons per person per day. This equates to a reduction of six to nine gallons a day.
