With McKean County in a substantial level of COVID-19 transmission for a second consecutive week, Otto-Eldred School District Superintendent Matt Splain released a statement regarding changes in current operations.
Both the elementary and high school students will attend as usual on Monday, Otto-Eldred High School students will move to remote-learning on Tuesday and Wednesday. Students notified will be invited/permitted to come to school; students and families have already received notification if they should plan to still attend in person. The elementary school will continue with in-person instruction all week.
Transportation will run as normal for the morning, though a few changes may occur in the afternoon. CTC students can attend as normal; they will return home for the p.m. classes unless they are staying at the high school.
Meals will be served at the high school for students attending. Meal pick-up will be available for high school students either at the high school or elementary school. Meals for Tuesday and Wednesday should be ordered at www.schoolcafe.com prior to 9 p.m. the prior evening. Pick-ups will occur Tuesday and Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the parent pick-up area at the elementary school and in the bus circle at the high school.
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Tests (ASVABs) will be held as scheduled on Wednesday; students will need to coordinate transportation home after testing. Additionally, practices will be permitted to occur after school, as per the announced schedule, with additional safety measures implemented.
Thanksgiving break will be from Nov. 26 through Nov. 30. Unless circumstances change, OEHS will resume remote learning on Dec. 1 and all other students will resume in-person instruction.
“I am viewing this as a temporary adjustment to help our schools maintain operations long-term,” said Splain. “I have full confidence our staff will do whatever is needed to keep educating our students.”
He also encouraged families to stay safe by wearing masks, respecting social distancing guidelines and avoiding large groups over the holiday break.
Splain will be hosting a Community Zoom Session at 4 p.m. Monday to review the district’s current status and plans. A registration link will be shared via email and posted on the OESD Facebook page.
