Individuals are asked to first start off with a regular sized shoe box. The top and the bottom of the box can be wrapped in wrapping paper if desired. Next, one should decide whether the box is for a boy or a girl and what age range it’s for (2-4 years, 5-9 years or 10-14 years).
When filling the box, it’s suggested to include one quality “wow” item, such as a stuffed animal, doll, soccer ball with pump, small musical instrument or clothing item that will get the child’s attention upon opening the box. Finish off the box with personal care items, clothing and accessories, crafts and activities and toys. A list of suggested and prohibited items are also listed on the aforementioned website. Samaritan’s Purse also encourages families to include a picture and a personal note for the child who receives the box.
