DUKE CENTER — At the recent Otto Township supervisors’ meeting, Jeannie Drummond was introduced as the new secretary of Otto Township, replacing the retiring Cynthia Gardner. Drummond will resume responsibilities immediately and can be reached at the township office in Duke Center any weekday, in person or by phone (966- 3553).
Rixford resident Tom Merry again asked the supervisors to do something about the raw sewage that has been running onto his property for several months. County, state and federal agencies have all been contacted, and yet the raw sewage continues to flow, contaminating Merry’s property and the nearby Moody Hollow Brook. Chairman Eric Barton will again contact the governmental agencies and ask again for some definitive action be taken to correct this unhealthy and illegal transgression.
The township received approval from the engineers to have a temporary bridge installed on Rixford’s Depot Street. Work is expected to begin immediately, weather permitting. Local businessman CJ Kaluza inquired about buying the old bridge and was instructed to contact the construction company as it was included in the contract as partial payment.
The other Rixford bridge to be repaired/replaced (Clark Street) is to be inspected this week, with the necessary improvements scheduled for 2021. Also, an Act 13 county grant has been applied for to evaluate the condition of the Brooklyn Street bridge in Duke Center.
Barton reported that there will be no full-time officer on the Otto-Eldred Joint Police Force until a grant can be obtained. Increased hours of patrol time will, however, be scheduled with the present cohort of part-time officers.
Duke Center resident Jesse Miller has been issued a summons under the township’s newly constructed ordinance for failing to improve his Oil Valley property. Miller’s deadline to show progress is Nov. 30. Citations and fines will result thereafter if necessary.
It was announced that a new refuse truck has been purchased and will be delivered in time to pick up Thanksgiving turkey carcasses and empty pie-filling and cranberry sauce cans as a warmup for the Christmastime “gathering.”
