Kane’s Evergreen Park may include a new feature in the future: a Fitness Court.
In order to figure out the best way to move forward, residents are asked to complete a survey before Friday.
According to Kane Mayor Brandy Schimp, the renewal of enthusiasm for outdoor recreation and fitness is contributing to the idea for the Fitness Court, which is “an outdoor bodyweight circuit training center designed to improve the quality of life in boroughs like ours.”
This feature of the park would provide an element for adults who would like to focus on strengthening their bodies.
“The proposed location is the flat area between the tennis courts and the dragon slide in the Creative Playground and would not require the removal of any trees. The court would be solely funded through partnerships, grants, and sponsorships and would not be funded through local taxes,” Schimp explained. “This project is also supported by our local gyms.”
The survey can be found in the Notes section on Brandy Schimp, Kane Mayor’s Facebook page and in the comments on a post to the page itself. For those who prefer a printed copy, a stop at the borough office will provide one to be filled out.
A two-minute video is available on the National Fitness Campaign’s website that will provide more information on the elements of a Fitness Court.
According to Schimp’s social media post, a Fitness Court is created with a focus on seven main components of a workout: Core, Squat, Push, Lunge, Pull, Agility and Bend. The areas of the court are designed to serve adults who are any age and level of ability, with the intent to help users challenge and strengthen their body.
An app is available, free of charge, that can be utilized at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels and provides training videos for those who plan to use the court at that level.
