Coudersport pair charged in catalytic converter theft
A Coudersport couple is facing allegations related to the theft of catalytic converters from a car sales business in Bradford.
Timothy W. Durgan, 28, and Hannah E. Sheldon, 29, both of 153 Angel Lane, Coudersport, were arraigned Sunday before District Judge Dominic Cercone.
Durgan is charged with two counts of theft of secondary metal, third-degree felonies; two counts each of theft from a motor vehicle and possessing an instrument of crime and one count of receiving stolen property, first-degree misdemeanors; possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors.
Meanwhile, Sheldon is charged with receiving stolen property, a first-degree misdemeanor; possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, at 11:48 a.m. Sunday, Bradford City Police were dispatched to 123 S. Kendall Ave. — a car sales business — for a report of a theft in progress. A witness reported that a male — later identified as Durgan — was trying to cut the catalytic converter from a vehicle, and the witness had Durgan’s vehicle blocked in with his own.
The officer arrived to find the witness and Durgan arguing. Durgan was wearing a wet, muddy work coat and coveralls. A Ford minivan had been lifted on the passenger side with a scissor jack, and a battery-powered saw was under the van, the complaint stated.
Sheldon, meanwhile, was sitting in her and Durgan’s vehicle.
According to the complaint, the officer took Durgan into custody, then learned that there was an active warrant for Sheldon out of Potter County and took her into custody, too.
In Durgan and Sheldon’s vehicle, police found a catalytic converter from a different vehicle, as well as two pipes, assorted paraphernalia and a zippered blue pouch that contained about 4.97 grams of methamphetamine.
Durgan is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, and Sheldon is free on $10,000 unsecured bail. They have preliminary hearings set for Nov. 18.

Bradford pair charged after child found in Erie
A Bradford pair is facing criminal charges after law enforcement officials found they hid a child in Erie from McKean County Children and Youth Services.
Carolyn B. Levar, 35, of 45 Clarence St., and Michael D. Rose-Unger, 33, who is homeless, were arraigned Monday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on charges of concealment of whereabouts of a child, a third-degree felony, and interference with the custody of children, a second-degree misdemeanor. Unger is also charged with obstruct administration of law/other government function, a second-degree misdemeanor.
The criminal complaint states that on Oct. 27, McKean County CYS informed Bradford City Police of an emergency custody order for Levar and Unger’s child. Police went to 45 Clarence St. to talk to the parents, and both were “very uncooperative and rude with police and CYS.”
Unger told them the child was not there, but rather with his girlfriend in Warren, the complaint alleged.
Officers tried to call the woman who Unger identified as his girlfriend, and they tried to find her and the child at the Warren address they had for the woman, according to court records. They learned the recent tenants of the Warren address had been evicted.
When police could not find either the woman or the child, a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) notice was issued for the woman, and the child was at this point considered a missing person, the complaint indicated.
When the woman was located, she told police that Unger was a former roommate of hers — whom she had not seen in some time — and she did not have custody of the child, according to court records. The woman was removed from the BOLO.
After following up on another tip, police tracked down a man who lives on Pike Street in Bradford. The man told police that Unger, Levar and the child were staying with him up until about three days prior, the complaint stated.
Erie City Police found Unger, Levar and the child at a residence in Erie, according to the complaint.
Levar and Unger are in McKean County Jail on $50,000 bail each. A preliminary hearing for the pair is set for Nov. 18.
