Ridgway Middle/High School will transition to remote instruction for the week of Nov. 2 — 6 due to the number of coronavirus cases and quarantined students and staff.
According to a social media post shared on Thursday, the school has a total of four positive COVID-19 cases. The most recent was confirmed late Wednesday.
Due to the cases and contact tracing, 67 students in grades 6 to 12 are quarantined and 10 staff members are as well. Due to the confirmation of the most recent case, which is an eighth grade student, the number of staff is expected to increase.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education and state Department of Health, this is the point at which the transition to remote learning is necessary.
Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary has no known positive staff or students’ cases of COVID-19 and will continue in-person instruction, according to the social media post.
Today is an in-service day and there is no school for students.
Following the week of remote instruction, officials will look at data regarding the local cases and those within the school population. They will also consult with the departments of Health and Education and determine the next course of action.
In Thursday’s report on COVID-19 from the Department of Health, Elk County reported three additional cases for the county, bringing the total to 167, with 135 of those confirmed and 32 listed as probable. The county is currently considered to be at the substantial risk level for coronavirus.
