Life got a lot rougher for the Penn State football team on Tuesday. They’re already coming off a tough loss against Indiana, and Ohio State is ready to bring its dominant team into Beaver Stadium as a double-digit favorite.

And now, star running back Noah Cain won’t be in uniform.

Head coach James Franklin opened his weekly press conference with the bad news that Cain will miss the rest of the 2020 season with an injury.

Franklin didn’t elaborate on the injury, but Cain only had three carries Saturday before he was shown on the Fox Sports broadcast going into the injury tent. Cameras later showed the sophomore wearing a boot on his left leg and he had a set of crutches.

The team was already without Journey Brown, who was supposed to be the starter. Cain rushed for 443 yards with eight touchdowns last season, while Brown had 12 touchdowns and 890 yards.

Last week, it was announced that Brown could “potentially miss the rest of the season” with an undisclosed injury.

Deyvn Ford will go from third-string back to starter this week. He had 69 yards on 20 carries against Indiana. He also scored a touchdown that will live in infamy or lore, depending on if you’re a Nittany Lion or Hoosier, at the end of the fourth quarter.

Franklin said during the presser that Keyone Lee and Caziah Holmes, both freshmen, will see time along with Ford.

Holmes had 16 yards on five rushes against Indiana in his first collegiate action. Lee had 35 yards on six attempts and six yard on two catches.

Losing Cain couldn’t come at a worse time for a Nittany Lions team that dropped from 8 to 18 in the latest AP poll. They’re also going to be missing starting linebacker Jesse Luketa for the first half after a targeting penalty against Indiana.
