Bradford man accused of indecent assault
A Bradford man is facing criminal charges after he allegedly had indecent contact with a teen who has a mental disability.
Mathew K. Frederick, 30, of 193 W. Washington St., Apt. 2, was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on charges of indecent assault of a person with a mental disability, a first-degree misdemeanor; indecent assault without consent, a second-degree misdemeanor; and harassment, a summary charge.
According to court records, on July 11, Frederick was sitting on a couch as a 16-year-old girl walked by him and he grabbed her buttocks. She pushed his hands off and said it was against her father’s rules.
Frederick stood up, grabbed her chest and told her he wished she was 18, the complaint stated. The teen pushed his hands away, told him again that it was against the rules and walked away from him.
Frederick is free on $5,000 unsecured bail, and a preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 4.

Bradford man accused of threats, assault
A Bradford man was arraigned Tuesday on allegations he assaulted a female and threatened her to keep her from leaving his apartment.
Kenneth A. Pearce Sr., 71, of 176 Elm St., was arraigned before District Judge Dominic Cercone on charges of terroristic threats, a first-degree misdemeanor, and simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor.
According to the criminal complaint, on Oct. 1 at an apartment where Pearce was staying on High Street, Pearce and a female were in an argument. During the argument, he allegedly threw a full, unopened 16-ounce can of Bud Light at the female’s head, causing a laceration on top of her head, along with severe facial swelling.
She tried to leave the apartment, but Pearce threatened to “choke” her and “kill” her if she tried to leave, the complaint stated. She stayed until the following morning, when she was able to sneak out of the apartment.
The female sought treatment of her injuries at the Bradford Regional Medical Center emergency room, according to court records.
Pearce is free on $500 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 4.

Bradford man facing firearm allegations
A Bradford man was criminally charged after a trooper learned during a traffic stop that he was carrying a loaded handgun without a license.
Simon P. Couls Jr., 21, of 101 Main St., Bradford, was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on a charge of firearm not to be carried without a license-no criminal violation, a first-degree misdemeanor, and a summary charge of disregarding traffic lane.
The criminal complaint states that at 10:29 p.m. Sept. 4, a state trooper was traveling north on U.S. Route 219 just south of the Elm Street exit in Bradford City, when noticed the car in front of him was traveling with its right tires on the fog line of the road. The car crossed over the fog line by about two feet, so the trooper pulled over the car, which was driven by Couls.
Upon speaking with Couls, the trooper noticed he had a large foldable knife in the left cup holder of the car. Couls told the officer that he had a fully loaded pistol in the car and said he normally open carries it; he does not have a concealed carry permit, according to the complaint.
The trooper had Couls exit the car, then the trooper found the handgun, which was a .45 automatic 1911 pistol with a round chamber, along with a full magazine that was seated inside the gun, court records stated.
Couls was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 4.
