EMPORIUM — Emporium-based state police are investigating what they say are a string of arsons that occurred since July 5 in Gibson Township, Cameron County.
According to police, there have been at least three fires during this time that were incendiary in nature, the most recent being earlier this month.
The first two were July 5 and July 26, both on Route 555 near Moser Lane in Gibson Township, police reported. The third alleged arson was at 8:54 p.m. Oct. 11 on Route 555, about .3 miles east of Cash Dollar Road in Gibson Township.
Police said that each fire was allegedly started by igniting fallen leaves and outside debris on fire using an emergency road flare just off of Route 555.
Police did not state that any people were hurt or any buildings damaged in the fires. They did not indicate how far any of the fires spread.
Involved in the investigation are the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit, the Sinnemahoning Fire Department and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
