It wasn’t the weather or a car accident. However, things got pretty dark Wednesday evening and area residents were wondering why.
A power outage in Bradford and Lewis Run affected around 6,400 customers. The unexpected outage occurred around 6:30 p.m.
Some customers had power back within 20 minutes, while others were without power until early morning Thursday.
According to FirstEnergy Spokesperson Todd Meyers, an equipment failure at the Lewis Run substation was the cause of the outage.
This substation feeds several other substations in the area, which contributed to the loss of electric service for so many customers at once.
The good news, for many, was that the outage was not extended.
“Within 20 minutes or so, about 5,000 customers were restored. We had numerous crews working on the issue and the remaining 1,000 customers were restored by 1:52 a.m. (Thursday) morning,” Meyers said.
The outage impacted The Era newsroom as well as businesses and residents from downtown Bradford to Foster Brook for a short time. Lewis Run and Marshburg residents were also left in the dark by the outage.
